The secondary nav bar doesn’t extend past the body margins, and I would like to have it extend along the length of the main header so that I can place a background gradient in it.

I guess that what I actually want is for the .topnavsecondarytable to extend to the edge of the page (1263px) but it will not extend that far when I style it.

Correct - it is in a main container and the way the site is currently designed - that main container is a fixed width.
This can be changed, but there are inherent risks to the content formatting and layout that are associated with a website that dynamically changes width with the browser.

Ok, that makes sense. Would the best way to style the content be using a single background image? The reason I don't want to do this is because every time I want to change the nav style I have to have someone redesign the graphic.

Should I make the gradient image a part of the main navigation background? Or is it feasible to make the background gradient a separate element that is a part of the secondary nav table? I would prefer to make it a part of the secondary nav table if it is at all possible because it would make the website more independent of graphic design.
